After growing up in Zimbabwe, Sir Simon Tuckey was called to the Bar of England & Wales by Lincoln's Inn in 1964. He practised from 4 Pump Court, principally in commercial law. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1981, and was a Recorder from 1984 to 1992, when he became a Judge of the Queen's Bench Division. He was nominated to sit in the Commercial Court, and was the Judge in Charge from 1997 to 1998. He also sat in the Employment Appeal Tribunal during his time in the Queen's Bench, and was a Presiding Judge on the Western Circuit from 1995 to 1997. He was appointed Lord Justice of Appeal in 1998. After retiring from the Court of Appeal in 2008, Sir Simon sat as a Judge of Appeal in Gibraltar, and practised as a commercial arbitrator and mediator.

Sir Simon Tuckey died in August 2023.
